Sarlat is a small, medieval town in the south of France, in the Perigord region, where I spent a few days in 2005. At the end of that visit, while I waited for the bus to leave, I wandered around some of the back residential streets. There, I found this barn with this amazing, extreme wood weathering. The painted lettering reads "Bois du Nord," or "North Wood." A common rural practice to preserve wood is to paint it with diesel, and my guess is that this has been applied here years ago. Love the palette, love the texture - one of my favourites.
