Another design made possible by the AI image engine, Midjourney. I've named this version "Plankton Singles Party" in part because I think it's funny, but also to distinguish it from the use of this pattern in a seamless repeating tile way, which I have named "Plankton Party Mixer."
About a year ago, I skimmed past a Victorian-era engraving of plankton, a crowded diagram of different species, rendered in white on a black background. There was a strong alien quality to it and it immediately suggested a pattern, but for some reason I didn't save it. I've devoted a bit of time since then to finding it again, but no luck. With Midjourney, I was able to capture the idea in some form, if not quite its original form.
